I stedet for at fastholde \u00f8jeblikket lader han frav\u00e6ret tale og vender blikket mod mennesket, der g\u00e5r bort. Midt i m\u00f8rket opst\u00e5r en dobbelt l\u00e6sning: som tab \u2013 og som n\u00e6rv\u00e6r, der ikke forsvinder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">En maler og hans tid<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jean-L\u00e9on G\u00e9r\u00f4me (1824\u20131904) h\u00f8rer til de franske malere, som eftertiden med en vis foragt har kaldt \u201csalonkunstnere\u201d. Betegnelsen knytter sig til hans tilknytning til Salonen i Paris og den etablerede akademiske tradition, som impressionisterne i 1870\u2019erne gjorde op med. Hvor impressionisterne skabte deres eget modspil i Salon des Refus\u00e9s, blev afvisningen fra Salonen et adelsm\u00e6rke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">G\u00e9r\u00f4me var imidlertid en anerkendt kunstner i sin samtid. Han var elev af Paul Delaroche og arbejdede i en klar, fort\u00e6llende stil, som ogs\u00e5 kendes fra Jacques-Louis David og Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres. Efter studierejser til Italien og senere til Egypten, Pal\u00e6stina og Mellem\u00f8sten udviklede han en r\u00e6kke motiver fra den islamiske verden, ofte med eksotiske og erotiske undertoner. Hans v\u00e6rker blev eftertragtede samlerobjekter, og han opn\u00e5ede b\u00e5de status og indflydelse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Senere blev han stemplet som reaktion\u00e6r, men i det 20. og 21. \u00e5rhundrede er interessen for hans v\u00e6rker vendt tilbage \u2013 ikke mindst p\u00e5 grund af deres visuelle styrke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Et billede, der foruroliger<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I 1867 skabte G\u00e9r\u00f4me et af sine mest markante v\u00e6rker: Golgotha, Consummatum Est. Allerede i samtiden virkede det foruroligende, og det g\u00f8r det stadig. Titlen henviser til Jesu ord p\u00e5 korset: \u201cDet er fuldbragt.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Det us\u00e6dvanlige ved billedet er, at korsf\u00e6stelsen ikke vises direkte. Den er kun til stede indirekte \u2013 som skygge. Som i et moderne filmsprog foreg\u00e5r det afg\u00f8rende \u201coff camera\u201d: Det, der burde v\u00e6re i centrum, er frav\u00e6rende, og netop derfor tr\u00e6nger det sig st\u00e6rkere p\u00e5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Skyggen som vidnesbyrd<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scenen er lagt i et svindende lys. Jorden m\u00f8rknes, himlen skraveres, og billedet synes at lukke sig. Jesu liv fremst\u00e5r som en skygge, der snart opsluges af m\u00f8rket. Griber mennesket ud efter ham, glider han bort som en illusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Men midt i m\u00f8rket bryder et andet lys frem. Bag Jesus og de to r\u00f8vere ses et st\u00e6rkt, n\u00e6sten fosforescerende lys, som f\u00e5r de korsf\u00e6stede til at kaste lange skygger. Lyset kommer fra et sted uden for billedet \u2013 og peger dermed p\u00e5 en virkelighed, der r\u00e6kker ud over det synlige.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hos salmisten hedder det: \u201cSelv om jeg g\u00e5r i m\u00f8rkets dal, frygter jeg intet ondt, for du er hos mig.\u201d Det samme synes billedet at sige: selv i det inderste m\u00f8rke er Gud n\u00e6r.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mennesket, der g\u00e5r bort<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I billedets dybde bev\u00e6ger menneskem\u00e6ngden sig v\u00e6k fra Golgata. Vidnerne g\u00e5r bort: soldaterne, r\u00e5dsmedlemmerne, forn\u00e6gterne \u2013 selv de n\u00e6rmeste. De bev\u00e6ger sig ned mod byen, mod hverdagen, mod det, der skal forts\u00e6tte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">G\u00e9r\u00f4me vender dermed beskuerens blik. Vi er ikke vidner til selve begivenheden, men til det, der f\u00f8lger efter. Vi st\u00e5r blandt dem, der g\u00e5r bort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Skyggerne fra korsene str\u00e6kker sig hen over klipperne og rammer menneskene, der forlader stedet. De f\u00f8lger dem \u2013 ud i verden. P\u00e5 den m\u00e5de bliver skyggen ikke kun et spor af det, der er sket, men en del af det liv, der forts\u00e6tter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">En dobbelt tolkning<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Skyggen kan l\u00e6ses p\u00e5 to m\u00e5der.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">P\u00e5 den ene side som et billede p\u00e5 d\u00f8d og frav\u00e6r: en afsv\u00e6kkelse, en rest af noget, der er forsvundet. Som om Jesu liv blot var et glimt, der nu svinder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">P\u00e5 den anden side som beskyttelse: en skygge, man kan tr\u00e6de ind i. En \u201ck\u00e6rlighedsvinge\u201d, som B.S. Ingemann skriver. Ikke som m\u00f8rke, der kv\u00e6ler, men som et skjul, hvor mennesket kan finde ro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">G\u00e9r\u00f4mes billede rummer begge l\u00e6sninger. Det viser m\u00f8rket \u2013 men lader det ikke st\u00e5 alene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Skyggen, der bliver<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I sidste ende er det ikke m\u00f8rket, der f\u00e5r det sidste ord. Skyggen bliver liggende i landskabet, som et vidnesbyrd, der ikke kan viskes bort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Evangeliet forsvinder ikke med m\u00f8rket.
